Gregg Kreutz has won numerous honors as a student and professional painter. His paintings have been represented in many juried shows. Gregg is represented by the Fanny Garver Gallery as many others, including the Grand Central Galleries, New York, O'Brien's Art Emporium, and the Dirk Walker Gallery in Brimingham, Alabama. He teaches painting at Scottsdale (Arizona) Artists School, the Fechin Institute (New Mexico), and at the Art Students League in New York City where he lives.

Jedem, der gerne ein Künstler werden will, empfehle ich eine richtige Ausbildung, denn ohne sie, können Anfänger viele Enttäuschungen erleben. Hat man dazu gerade keine Möglichkeiten, wie Schule oder Kurse, wird eben ein Selbststudium nötig, das auch gute Erfolge bringen kann. Zu einem Selbststudium gehören natürlich Bücher, geschrieben von Autoren, die didaktische Fähigkeiten und künstlerische Kompetenzen vorweisen. Ich lerne auch lieber alleine und bedauere es sehr, dass in Deutschland nahezu keine Literatur gibt, die einem ambitionierten Anfänger wie mir behilflich sein könnte, eine Komposition aufzubauen oder die wichtigsten Faktoren erklärte, die ein einem Bild wirken und welche Bedeutung das gegenseitige Zusammenspiel von diesen Faktoren für das Gesamtwerk hat.Das alles bringt das Buch von Gregg Kreutz mit. Sein Buch ist aufgeteilt in einzelne Themenbereiche, wie Idee, Formen, Helligkeit, Licht, Schatten, Tiefe, Solidität, Farbe und Malen. Alle Begriffe werden ausführlich erklärt und durch den Verweis auf eigene, übrigens sehr schöne, Werke dem Leser näher gebracht. Maltechniken hingegen werden nur kaum erwähnt, doch das ist auch nicht das Thema des Buches. Im Vordergrund steht die Umwandlung einer künstlerischen Idee hin zu einem visuellen Ereignis.Ich bin sehr dankbar für dieses Buch und empfehle es jedem, der malen will oder sich dafür interessiert, wie ein Werk entsteht. Das Buch hat für mich nur einen einzigen Nachteil: es ist auf Englisch. Obwohl ich eigentlich nur über rudimentäre Englischkenntnisse verfüge, arbeite ich mich trotzt aller Schwierigkeiten durch und lege das Buch seit Tagen nicht aus der Hand

Sehr schön aufgemachtes Buch, das auch dem Akademie-Absolventen im Atelier noch manchen Tipp geben kann, in der Malpause.... Sehr lehrreich.
I would give this book 10 stars if I could! I'm an artist, and primarily self-taught, so over the years I've consistently turned to this book whenever I've been in one of those troublesome situations of something not working the way I intended, or an element is just slightly off. I've truly learned a 'lifetime' of lessons through consulting it time and time again. Many Aha! moments begotten and much relief in learning these principles. I am so grateful for this book!
It is basically a beginner's guide to oil painting, but it is also quite suitable for intermediate level. The author explains basic notions which are (hopefully) familiar to every painter and stresses on some fine details later on in his book. As examples he uses his own works, reproaching them critically. For a biginner it should be a simpler (and better) way of learning, I believe, than analising masterpieces of great painters.Attention kitsch painters: This book will disappoint you. It does not explain "how to paint" or how to achieve quick "effects". This book is rather for serious beginners who have made some experience on their own and are interested in arts and not in decorating canvases with paint. If you watch TV, you will probably hate this book.
